Mbondaa Foundation for a Better Future

Why Mbondaa Foundation Exists

Sierra Leone is rich in culture, talent, land, and natural resources, yet many communities continue to face poverty, limited job opportunities, and barriers to education. For too many young people, especially in rural areas, the path from school to employment is uncertain. Mbondaa Foundation was created to help change that.

We believe that young people are Sierra Leone’s greatest resource. When they are educated, supported, trained, and connected to real opportunities, they can strengthen their families, serve their communities, and help build the future of the country.

The Challenges We Address

Many students face obstacles that make it difficult to complete school or move into meaningful work. These include:

  • Limited family income to pay for school fees, uniforms, books, transportation costs.
  • Lack of access to career guidance, mentorship, technology, and practical job skills.
  • Pressure to leave school early in order to help support family members.
  • Limited employment opportunities after graduation, especially in rural communities.

A gap between education and the skills needed for local jobs, entrepreneurship, and community development. For girls, additional challenges may include lack of hygiene supplies, limited health education, and social pressures that interrupt schooling.

Our Solution

Mbondaa Foundation supports students from secondary school through higher education and into employment or entrepreneurship.

Our program provides educational sponsorship, mentorship, monthly support for university students, career development, and practical skills training. We also encourage students who graduate to give back by volunteering as mentors and supporting younger students.

Our work is rooted in community. Programs are led and supported by local community members, creating jobs, building trust, and ensuring that solutions reflect real local needs.

Our Long-Term Vision

Over time, Mbondaa Foundation aims to operate a full-scale community center where youth can access computers, books, training, mentorship and career support.

How We Measure Success

We measure our impact by tracking:

  • Student enrollment and retention
  • WASSCE completion and matriculation rates
  • University enrollment and graduation
  • Graduates who return to volunteer or mentor
  • Youth placed in jobs, internships, or business development programs
  • Girls and families served through community support programs

Our Belief

Natural resources alone do not build a nation. People do.

Mbondaa Foundation invests in young people so they can become educated leaders, skilled workers, entrepreneurs, mentors, and community builders. When one student succeeds, an entire family and community can move forward.
